Upgrades and Enhancement Guide for Assassin's Creed Valhalla provides an overview of the options to better your Equipment. Upgrades for AC:V are a way to improve your gear, but all armor and weapons can also be Enhanced so that they are of increased quality.
What is an Upgrade in AC:V?
Upgrades in Assassin's Creed Valhalla are direct protection / damage improvements that can be performed from the pause menu anywhere in the world. Upgrades will only boost the base pre-determined stats of the weapon or armor that you have improved. Upgrade tiers are locked behind equipment quality, that is improved by performing Enhancements. So, a basic weapon may only be upgraded three times, whilst a Superior weapon may be upgraded up to 6 times instead. Upgrades are done with ?? materials.
What is an Enhancement in AC:V?
"Bringing ingots to the Settlement's forge will allow Gunnar to enhance armor and weapons. Doing so will unlock Rune Slots, increase the pieces's Upgrade Limit and may improve its Appearance"
Enhancements are Quality or Rarity improvements performed on Weapons and Armor. Enhancements may only be done at a Blacksmith, and will enable the weapon or armor to be upgraded beyond its original limits. Enhancing a weapon will not boost its base stats, but will instead add upgrade levels, Rune slots, and grant new appearances. Enhancement is done with Ingot Crafting Materials. There are four tiers of quality: Fine, Superior, Flawless and Mythical.

Upgrading your equipment is a simple task, as long as you have the base materials

Enhancing your equipment will require Ingots, that you must bring to Gunnar, the Blacksmiths at your Settlement. Ingots enhance gear and unlock rune slots and new visuals. Bring them to the Blacksmith Gunnar at his Forge.
- Fine to Superior: Carbon Ingots (Ingot used to enhance the quality of a gear from Fine to Superior. Gunnar, your settlement's blacksmith, would make great use of it)
- Superior to Flawless: Nickel Ingot (Ingot used to enhance the quality of a gear from Superior to Flawless. Gunnar, your settlement's blacksmith, would make great use of it)
- Flawless to Mythical: Tungsten Ingot (Ingot used to enhance the quality of a gear from Flawless to Mythical. Gunnar, your settlement's blacksmith, would make great use of it)
How to find Ingots Fast
Ingots are looted from chests as Wealth rewards. However, the Cartographer at the Settlements also sells Ingot Maps for the cost of 15 Silver. When you purchase an Ingot Map, you will see an icon directly on your map so you can head there directly.
